Giving Back To The Local Community
Here at the Insurance Knight Consultancy, we believe in giving back to the local community.
We are thrilled that Aviva, one of the insurance firms we work with, are giving us the opportunity to support one of our local charities. They are running a contest on their website, where the charities with the most votes will receive funding for their community projects.
Town Break Dementia Support Services in Stirling are one of the many charity groups competing for funding. They offer support groups and a 1-to-1 befriending service for people with dementia. They also offer Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and provide outings and day trips. They are a lifeline to dementia sufferers in rural areas who might not get the opportunity to meet other people, and they give service users the opportunity to spend some time away from their carers.
The charity has already worked closely with local secondary schools to allow sixth-year students to volunteer at the Day Club and to take part in a life history project with the service users.
The funding from Aviva, if they receive it, will go towards implementing a similar project with the school students. This time it will use musical reminiscence with the service users to help stimulate their memories and will provide MP3 players so they can have instant access to their own favourite music.
